It was still mid day when we reached Sydney, Australia and there was no time to waste. The layover was only 24 hours long and I was eager to see legendary Sydney. The jet lag when landing into Australia is severe - the country is 6-7 hours ahead depending on where you are and after such a long shift it feels even more. What happens when you experience such a difference is that you feel extremely sleepy and all you want is close your eyes. Like I mentioned the layover was short, so I didn’t have too much time to rest.

After a 2-hour power nap, I headed to the city center. Sydney is the state capital of New South Wales and the most populous city in Australia and Oceania. It is one of the most expensive cities in the world as well as amongst the most livable ones. Sydney hosted the 2000 Olympic Games and it is in top fifteen most visited cities in the world. A must see are Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House.

The best thing you can do for a day is visit the Opera House, the Harbour and the area around. There is a promenade that goes along the water and it if full of shops and cafes. It is perfect for walking and browsing around. This is the heart of Sydney. Life busts around with tourists and locals and it is the perfect hangout place for a day.
